I kept not ordering the Amalya, but I finally did and I love it. It hugs in all of the right places and doesn’t gap. I love that they made the buttonholes horizontal instead of vertical, it really helps keep the buttons secure. 35-28-39. I normally wear xs in wool& swing style dresses.
Love the fit and style of this dress, but the stitching is a little loose. It started coming undone on day 2 of my 30 day challenge. The part that is coming undone isn't essential to function, but I fear it's only going to get worse, and it won't look good in the long run. It's comfortable, and I hope to wear it over my next dress cardigan style during a 100 day challenge if it holds up until then.
A little black dress that works solo or can layer under or over tees or cardigans or jackets; it can go casual or dressy, can be worn open as a vest or duster, is comfortable in all kinds of weather... brilliant! And pockets big enough to hold a phone. I've worn it every day to work so far, to conferences and presentations, to a football game, to walk the dog, on a cross-country flight (doesn't wrinkle). The dolman sleeves are short enough to layer easily under knits. The waistband means you can add a belt or not. The V-neck is flattering and not too lowcut. It washes well in the machine on cold and dries overnight (I wash it once a week and it's been fine). Even the smallest details are well thought out: secure X-shaped stitching on the buttons, and first and last buttonhole are horizontal. Genius! This is my first Wool& dress, and I plan to get more!
I like Amalya more than I expected to. On the website I thought she looked rather dull, but in person she is a nice wardrobe addition. In my experience, she fits true to size. The V-neck is flattering without being revealing. The length hits around my knees. Amalya has a slight vintage 'I Love Lucy' vibe, which I dig. She is comfortable and easy to wear without any fussing. The waist does fall above my natural waist, but I don't think it detracts from the style.
I bought Amalya washed navy (the original version with longer dolman sleeves) in the warehouse clean out. I used her as a duster in the spring and then feeling a bit frumpy wearing her as a dress, put her in storage for the summer. I took her out today and paired her with a belt and merino leggings — wow what a bit of styling does! I'm so happy that I gave Amalya another try. She loves to be styled (but also is an amazing duster).
