Love the material.
Love the dress.
Returned because not long enough - on long legs it isn’t professional enough. (Tear falling.)
I put it on and unthinkingly tied the belt with the knot in the front, then wrote a scathing review about how it looked awful no matter what I did. I even tried pinning a new side seam to see if there was some tailoring I could do to make it work, as I really wanted it to work. Nothing I did seemed to make it look less like a gunny sack.
Before hitting send, I tried mimicking the promotional photos by tying the belt in the back, and the act of smoothing all the bulky excess fabric to the back fixed every problem I'd listed at first. I now mostly like the way it looks.
Sadly, I have determined that it is not possible for me to be decent while sitting cross-legged in this dress when wearing it instead of pants. The skirt is just cut too narrow and perhaps a bit too short, so it rides up and doesn't leave enough fabric to arrange for, you know, modesty, when seated in any position other than the traditional "be a lady and put your knees together and cross your ankles" discomfort. Every skirt I've ever enjoyed wearing has been cut generously enough that I can wear it on its own and it does its job of covering the unmentionables in any position I choose to sit in; every skirt that's failed this task has been unpleasant. So I'll be regretfully sending this one back, and looking forward to such a time as wool& gets around to manufacturing a 100% wool dress with a more accommodating skirt length and width.
Continuing that theme, I also noticed that the neckline of this dress is cut so low that any comfy bandeau or sports bra shows at the bottom of the neckline even with both available buttons securely fastened. If the placket had been designed with another button or two that one could close if desired, it would be a lot easier to wear. I was hoping that "we made a shirt dress" meant you'd just added a skirt to the wool&prince button-down shirt that I've been happily living in for the past year or so, but apparently it also meant taking away the flexibility of letting the wearer choose to button it up beyond the bust line if they so desire.
Hi Amy, first of all, thank you for being a customer of both wool& and Wool&Prince! We love to hear that you've been happily living in your W&P shirt. We're sorry to hear that the Clara hasn't worked out for you. We appreciate you giving it a chance, and sincerely appreciate your feedback. We always aim to make better dresses, and with your help, we can continue to do so. We hope you find a dress of ours that you like in the future.
Comfortable, for sure! I wish the fit was a little better for me... I'm not a belt wearer so felt self conscious. I will keep it but it's not as loved as the swing dress. It's too big in the shoulders but the smaller size was too tight in the chest and barely too tight in the hips.
Hi Danette, thank you. We're sorry to hear that the fit isn't exactly what you had in mind. The belt can be removed if you prefer to do so.
I was really looking forward to loving this dress but I had to send it back. The material is really nice, and the deep teal color was gorgeous in person. The length was long enough that I didn't feel like I needed to wear anything under it without exposing too much. But the cut of the dress really didn't work for my body type. The top half was way too big and I had a ton of extra fabric around my middle that felt and looked bad. For reference, I have a 10" circumference difference between my waist and hips, and I'm larger on the bottom than the top. This could be a great dress for someone with different proportions. Sadly, I had to send it back.
Wool& dresses haven't fit me right before, but this one does -- usually the dresses just don't hang on me right and look frumpy. This one manages to fit me just right, and the skirt hits right above the knee. The only criticism I'd give is that the tiny belt loop on one side immediately snapped off as soon as I used it -- something I've never had happen before with any dress before. It's all right, though, since I've found I can use the belt just fine without the loops, as long as it's reasonably tight.
