I love a fitted waist so was excited to try this dress for the 100 day dress challenge. The fabric is soft, the color was great, I liked the little fabric belt. I have full hips however, so while the large fit my hips well, the top of the dress was far too roomy with the shoulders well off to the sides. Sizing down to a medium would probably correct the issues up top, however, the skirt would then be too narrow for my frame.
Have returned it and ordered the Ellie to try instead! Hoping the hips will be more forgiving.
I debated getting the Rowena or the Clara for my challenge but ultimately went with Clara and I'm very happy with my choice! The deciding factor was that Clara was 100% merino wool. I ordered a L according to my hip size and that worked out well. I did think the dress was a little short-waisted if I used the belt loops, but I just put my belts at my natural waist and didn't use the loops. Also if I were still in the workforce, I would not have been able to wear this dress to work as a dress. It would have worked all right with pants.
I'm on my day 23 and I'm in love with my Clara dress.
I love the fabric. It feels luxurious. It's warm but not overwarm. In cold days I wear a base layer underneath. I love that it's woven so it keeps its shape and the drape is very flattering.
Clara dress in M fits me so nicely. My usual size is something in between M and L because of my bra size. There is still some room in the dress. Using the belt creates a nice body curve.
I'm seriously concidering ordering another Clara dress in teal colourway when I finish 100 day challenge.
I have this in the deep teal (handy over Christmas!) and am enjoying how little I need to do to feel put together. I wear it over jeans or leggings mostly, and mostly without a belt too. Occasionally I wear it as a shirt (tucking it into my bra or just folding it up), but it suits my lifestyle especially well, as I’ve only washed it twice in spite of being a food-stain magnet! Spot cleaning and airing overnight is all it needs. Very very happy with it.
The teal Clara dress is lovely. I was not sure if it would fit but took a chance and it didn’t fit. I ordered the XXL but couldn’t get it over my top half so I had to return it. I knew it was a long shot but loved the style and the fabric was beautiful and soft. I ordered another style which I like but it isn’t as soft as the Clara. This dress seems versatile and easy to dress up. I really wish it would have worked for me, it’s my favorite color! The XXL in another style worked for me but it is a little snug thru my chest.
Clara was too small for me in the waist and hips. Fortunately it fits my daughter-in-law, so she got a nice gift (she was also the one that recycled the return paperwork so maybe it was an ulterior motive). And it doesn't come any larger. It is much heavier material than my Rowena Swing.
I was so excited for this dress but sadly I’m returning it. The fabric is lovely, very sturdy and smooth, but it’s cut in a weird, unflattering way.
For reference: I’m 5’8”/34A bra size/27” waist/39” hips.
Way too much material on the waist and back, pockets are too high on the front of the hips, so no matter what I do it looks like I suddenly gained 5lbs around my waist/upper hips. Belt doesn’t help because the pockets and material on the back just poof out around it. The skirt goes straight down like a sack, without any tailoring or flare at all, so it looks tighter around the hips and baggy on top.
Maybe it works on a different body type (larger bust) but if you’re smaller on top and around the waist it’s going to be awkward and feel like you’re wearing a sack.
Hi there. I'm sorry to hear that the Clara didn't work well for you. We appreciate all of your feedback and we'll use it in the future to improve our designs. Please let us know if we can do anything to help, or answer additional questions, and we hope you find a style of ours that works for you in the future!
I was so excited about this dress, but when it arrived those hopes were dashed. The arms and shoulders fit well, but everything else was WAY too big, even the chest area. As a petite, curvy, athletic build, I am not accustomed to having too much room in a dress when the arms and shoulders fit. Even cinching the waist in with the belt didn't help, it looked like I was wearing one of those artist smocks they put on children for painting time. This dress was way too casual to actually wear for 100 days, unless I wanted to go 100 days without a job in an office. It's unprofessional and sloppy for work. I'd totally wear the style on my own time (provided it was sized to fit correctly), but I just could not find a way to wear this to work and still look like a professional. I tried it with several blazers and jackets, different tights and belts, and a wide variety of shoes. Everything looked like I was pulled in from gardening and then added a nice piece on top of a sloppy mess.
While I love the concept of slow fashion and sustainable garments, this price was much higher than I am comfortable spending for what is essentially a wool smock. It's an outrageously expensive price point for something that would be worn to be casual. I wish Wool& would consider the variety of body shapes that women have and start to design pieces for real-shaped women, not life-sized Weeble dolls. I have never met a human who actually was shaped like a squat Christmas Tree, but that is what all of these dresses seem to be targeted.
I'll take my money and spend it on a nice flannel dress from a reputable brand, which is designed for real humans, and then I'll wear that dress and feel pretty and put together until it wears out. Then I'll buy another with the rest of the money that I would have spent on this single Wool& dress, and repeat!
I was so nervous to receive the dress because it doesn't have any stretch and I was worried the size wouldn't be very forgiving. However, this dress might just be the best dress I've ever owned. It fits like a glove, the pockets are awesome, and it's the perfect length. It's got just the right amount of structure and it falls so nicely. Wool& dresses are so well made and I'm so glad to be adding such a high quality dress to my wardrobe!
I've been on a weight loss journey and I've fallen in love with your dresses. I'm about 1/2 way to where I want be, but I really, really wanted a Wool& dress NOW! I have spent hours pouring over pictures and reviews trying to decide if I can wear one of your dresses now, and also wear the same dress quite a few pounds later as my body continues to shrink.
I chose this dress in black for the versatility and the Laurel tunic to try in both XL and L. (I also bought a Rowena and took a chance on the L, which was the correct choice.) To my delight, when I tried on the XL and the L, I loved how the XL looked on me, and I also loved the L, which was a bit snugger, but easily wearable the way it is. I returned the XL seamlessly, and I am secure in the knowledge that I'll feel pretty and confident as I wear this dress now, and as I continue to lose weight this beautiful dress will continue to look fabulous on me.
Sure it's expensive, but it's gorgeous, flattering, and will serve me well now, and well into the rest of my weight loss journey. Definitely worth the investment! And I'm considering another in teal. And maybe the red..
