For the office, I might wear a camisole underneath to give a bit more neckline coverage, but that would depend on how conservative your office is. Honestly this is a classy and classic sillouette, and I see it being in frequent rotation for a polished (but comfortable!) professional look or for going out.
Depending on the style of the dress, I can be on the fence between a medium or a large, but I was glad I went with the medium, since I have narrow shoulders. I did not have any issues with gapping or being able to see my bra.
I bought Elle midi wrap in black, size small. This dress is perfect! Bought it about 2 weeks ago & have been wearing frequently since then.
The wrap style is flattering & the fabric is so comfy... I was initially hesitant when I saw the word "wool". Previously, I'd been buying the cheaper cotton ones from Amazon but had always been disappointed after a few washes with how they started to sag. I'm hoi this holds up better.
Sizing was great. The wrap leaves a bit more cleavage than I'd like, but I've been wearing a tank under this.
I bought this dress as my reward for completing the 100 day challenge. Teal, small. I love it in every way as a spring/summer/fall dress but wow the neckline needs something. My bras all hang out. Trying to decide whether to add a snap/hook&eye or just sew it shut. :/
This dress is amazing for those of us with an hourglass figure. The faux wrap defines the waist, the neckline shows a little cleavage (or you can wear a cami under it for a more modest look), and the flared bottom hugs my hips without suffocating them. Ocean teal is also an amazing color.
I chose Ellie in Ocean Teal for my first Wool& dress/challenge dress. I needed my dress to be professional enough to wear to work, and shaped to flatter my figure. I have an “ample bosom” and the v-neck wrap style of the dress did accommodate but was too deep and revealing for working in healthcare. It did stretch a bit between washings. I solved that problem by wearing wool or cotton camisoles underneath. Being winter in Central Illinois, I also wore leggings and boots most days. I did not have issues with static cling, except for one day with synthetic leggings. A good rub down with a dryer sheet solved that issue. I found the length of the long style to be what I hoped for-below the knee. I did the challenge while recovering from a medical issue and I gained weight. The stretch of the dress accommodated my body changes.
The fabric is lovely. I have washed the dress 6x in the 100 days. Always cold, gentle cycle. I only washed because I noticed a food stain and found Dawn original dish detergent easily took care of stains, and Soak wool wash is great for overall gentle cleaning. The dress is very comfortable and easy to wear. The weight of the fabric was just right for layering in very cold weather, and not so much layering in moderate temps. The 3/4 sleeves were fine, and I think I’d like the dress just as well with a sleeve above the elbow or to the wrist. I’d love to have a shorter sleeve (rather than a sleeveless) for warmer months. I thought at first I should order the XL, but seeing other reviews I decided to try the L. L was definitely the right choice for this style.
I have always been a fan and wearer of wool, though I haven’t found many wool dresses in recent years. I was thrilled to find Wool& and these great dresses at a moderate price point. I look forward to new styles and colours. I’m torn between picking from what’s on offer now, or waiting a bit for new colours to spend my reward!
I love the soft texture, the drape, and the demure sexiness of Ellie. I hope there will be several other colors in the future.
My usual dress size is 10, and the S Ellie fits just right.
This dress is so very flattering for those of us with curves, especially compared to the swing styles. I love the lightweight fabric (thinner than expected but great) and having pockets is a godsend. It really doesn't hold odor as long as you don't wear a deodorant that causes buildup. I wash it maybe once every 10-15 days and leave it to air overnight. Perfect for travel. I sized down to an XL, as the size that suits my 'body measurements' on the chart was too baggy, and the material is super stretchy.
The only downside is that it's not a true wrap. Not only would this make it more versatile, but it would allow the neckline to be tightened properly and avoid showing more than I would like to in professional/conservative settings.
I lovethe Ellie dress. However, I would like a better way of keeping the front closed, a snap or hook maybe. Other than that I like the cut and style and the fabric is lovely and so comfortable!
From the waist up, this dress was perfect on me. However, from the waist down it was too clingy to be wearable. The skirt needed more fabric to be full enough to look good on me. But it felt wonderful. Merino wool is an exquisite fabric but it is clingy and not super forgiving in that it sticks to the most inconvenient places sometimes. I wish the skirt were fuller, then this dress would be perfect. I returned it for a refund.
I love this dress for all the reasons Ariel H mentioned however I do wish there was a small discreet snap or hook to make the neckline a little more modest but still leave it accessible for things like nursing... It's not a dealbreaker for me as I'm not a nursing mom and I just wear a cami underneath and I'll install my own snap or hook so I'll have a choice regarding wearing a cami or not. To be sure, this is a favorite of mine and I highly recommend it.
