This is very cute! So far the extra small Wool& dresses fit me best (Brooklyn and Sierra) but I chose to go with a small for the Mara. My hips are wider than my narrow shoulders and I still have my “covid”belly. The Mara is *slightly* snug on my belly/hips but I still think it looks good. I look forward to throwing on some leggings or tights and wearing this throughout the colder months!
I am not sure I would refer to the Mara as a dress, even with flats, low boots or sneakers it felt like a long sweatshirt. Don't get me wrong, it's cute and comfortable but short enough that I am not 100% confident that my backside would be covered enough for my comfort. I tried with my black Axil leggins and I was on the fence. I ordered a navy pair to better match the dress. I am keeping it for casual wear. It is definitely more fitted, a bit tight (may be my size)...but I trust as the temperature drops I will reach for it often. I also like it enough I am on the wait list for the black version ( you snooze you loose in my case).
I just received Mara and I cannot wait until it is cool enough to wear her. I really like the shape. I normally wear a size Large in dresses and base the size off my bust measurement. For wool& dresses, I wear a medium in Rowena but for me in this style a Large is perfect. The weight of the soft terry is so comforting and cozy and the washed navy will be a great neutral.
I ordered this dress after seeing a 60-degree weather forecast for San Francisco in August. It was perfect! I paired this dress with jeans and imagine leggings and tights are also great matches. The length just hits the tops of my knees. For someone taller, this may be more like a tunic.
I’m actually looking forward to coming central Texas winter so I can wear Mara for weeks on end.
Love the Mara. It’s a heavier weight than the other dresses, and has a slimmer fit, so that it’s like a long tunic. The placement of the pockets work better on me than the other dresses I’ve tried. The pockets are towards the front and are flat, rather than loose and on the sides. This is more flattering for my body type (I am a full size smaller on my top than my bottom). I got it in a size Small; the other Wood& dresses I’ve tried are a better fit for me in XS.
My husband has been a fan of wool & prince for several years, so I was eager to try wool&. I am SO happy with my Mara! It's very comfortable and flattering; this will be my travel dress when we (hopefully) go to Europe in December. I will wear this dress with tights and leggings. Definitely worth the investment!
I have 4 different Wool& dresses but this style is my favorite. It’s comfortable, warm and very flattering. It’s much more fitted than the Sierra or Rowena — I took a medium in those but a Large in Mara and probably should really be an XL but that’s sold out. I’m assuming it will stretch some. I do wish it came in more colors as the other styles do.
I ordered my Mara hoping to make it my 100 day dress and while it wasn’t suited for that (for me) I do love it and wore it a lot (50 days) last winter, into early Spring, and I’m considering buying another to wear next winter.
First, here is what I love- Of all my wool& dresses, it strikes the best balance between being both comfortable and flattering. The fabric isn’t as stretchy as Rowena fabric and feels much more substantial which is nice for a winter dress. The cut of the body of the Mira is narrower than a Rowena and tapered a bit so, while it is loose on the midsection, it isn’t shapeless. If you live in a place with wind, the narrower cut also eliminates the blow-up effect of the Rowena which mandates wearing leggings or shorts under the dress. I usually don’t like high necklines, as I’m weird about having tight things around my neck, but this neckline is great. It’s high enough to frame the face, hide some of the flaws that come with age, and provide some warmth, but loose enough that it isn’t constrictive (at all.)
My problem with the Mira and why I couldn’t make it work were all about the tapered arms. Note that other reviewers really like them, so it’s not a “design flaw,” but an issue about how I like to wear my clothes and the flexibility that I, a warm-natured person in a mildish-winter climate, needs in a single dress, worn from a cold February to a fairly warm April, with temps in the 60s & 70s. If you are cold natured or live in the North, my issues might be read as pluses.
I dislike the tapered forearms that on me (and I ordered a size larger than I probably needed) are too snug (and non-stretchy) to push up when it’s too warm. While my decidedly less flattering Rowena isn’t warm enough as a stand-alone winter dress, it’s easy enough to layer for warmth and remove layers when temps heat-up. With the Mira, you can layer to make it a fantastic dead-of-winter dress that’s way more appropriate than the Rowena… but you can’t un layer it to ALSO be a super-appropriate dress on a 70 degree Spring afternoon.
Again, if you live somewhere cold or you are a person who gets chilled easily and might wear a light sweatshirt on a 70 degree day, no problem. The tapered sleeves might be a non-issue. For me, if the sleeves were just a tad looser or stretchier, so I could push up the sleeves on a warmer day, I could have made it work… After a great 50 days, as the weather warmed, the lack of flexibility was my 90 day deal-breaker.
All that said, I still love my Mara, plan to wear it a lot during cold months, and am considering buying another! And, while I love the 100 Day concept, every dress I own doesn’t have to be an 100 Day Dress. I love my Mira for what it is: the best winter dress in the current Wool& line up!
the material used in this dress is unlike any of my other Wool& dresses
I wanted a dress that would be warm, cozy, have pockets, and be able to be dressed up or down. Mara fits the bill. Feels great, looks very nice. Works with flats, boots, leggings, tights, and bare legs just fine. The washed navy is a flattering dusky blue.
I have only tried on my new Mara…..but it fits really well……and I like the black color. I’m not wearing it currently as I live in central Texas and it’s just too hot I think but looking forward to wearing in later in the year. It will look great with leggings and boots I think. It seems very comfortable and I really like the pockets.
