I love my black and green striped Rowena dress. I layer it with leggings and boots — or my wool clogs, being in-home most of the time.
I originally bought this style in black XL, which turned out to be a bit too big for me. I now have a few of these in gray and black as well as plum. When the weather turned cooler, I switched from the sleeveless style which I wore all summer to this style. I wear them with leggings, cotton or wool, depending on the temperature. Sometimes I wear a short sleeve wool tee shirt underneath for extra warmth. I have worn these dresses hiking, cycling and sailing. I usually wear a contrasting bandanna around my neck for a spot of color.
I am very pleased by my green and black striped Rowena. The stripes add a bit of sass, in my opinion. It is easy to layer with other things, and it looks great. I have yet to overheat wearing this, and I am several days into my 100 day dress challenge now. Plus, I am so impressed by how easy it is to spot clean, if necessary, and how quickly it dries. These dresses are expensive, but I would say they are worth it. If you are someone who is considering paring down your wardrobe to a few essential items, I think this dress is a good choice.
This dress is so comfortable and flattering. I love it!
This is my 5th Rowena dress and the best one.
My first was the original and I continue to wear and love it for comfort and versatility even though it does not fit me the best. It is too short to wear without leggings and a little too swingy to wear without a sweater or large scarf. In other words, it is a bit short and makes me feel a bit fat.
The second season of Rowena, I bought two of the longer version, one olive and one black. The length is perfect for my conservative job with hosiery. They are too long to look good with leggings. Also, I must wear them with a sweater or jacket otherwise I look like I am wearing a tent.
The third season of Rowena, I bought the Canyon Red in the longer version. The fabric was improved back to 100% wool. The length was good with hosiery and okay with leggings. It felt a little big, but I did not exchange it. I wore this dress for the 100 day challenge.
With the challenge complete, I decided to give the shorter Rowena a chance and in a size smaller. It is perfect with leggings and I feel like I can wear it with a sweater or on its own. I feel like it has more structure and I do not feel quite so fat. The pandemic has not done my figure any favors.
Why did I not exchange the original purchases for a smaller size? The original sold out in a flash and when I looked at the size chart, I did not want a dress that was any shorter. When I received the second two dresses, I was traveling a lot and frankly simply threw them in my luggage for six months and always wore them with a jacket or sweater. The Canyon Red arrived during the original stay at home orders and there were shipping concerns and frankly, it was good enough. This last order, I finally noticed the return policy and thought that I may as well take a chance on a smaller size even though I feel a bit like the side of a barn these days.
Why do I keep buying these dresses? They wear beautifully, wash like a dream, are wrinkle resistant, and truly work for all four seasons.
