I own five Wool& dresses. I participated in the 100 day challenge with the Fiona Fit and Flare. It was life changing. Ever since then I've been looking for the perfect dress. I think I've found it in the Willow. I'm short so the 3/4 sleeves fit perfectly on me down to my wrist. I also like the v neck. I gave it 4 stars because it kind of looks like a sack on me. As I'm retired and rarely leave the house it's ok. It's a very comfortable dress and I'm going to order another in plum (which I waited MONTHS for). Get that inventory going! 3 -5 months is too long to wait for a dress. You have a good product.
I purchased the Rowena Swing Dress in Iron Grey last fall, thinking that it would be nice to have a warmer work-appropriate dress going into the winter. I'm tall, so I ordered the extra long dress. I usually wear an XL, so I ordered an XL. (I did check the size chart and measure myself.) The longer XL dress fit me like a sack. I did like the color, however. I decided that if I was going to spend this much money on a dress and potentially wear it for 100 days, I wanted it to fit really well, so I returned Iron Grey for a store credit.
Once I received the store credit, I started shopping for a size down. Nothing was available. Nothing was going to be available for MONTHS in my size, color, and desired style. Ultimately, I decided to purchase the Willow Swing Dress in Washed Navy. Not my first choice for color or style. I ordered in late March, thinking that I potentially could wear the dress for 100 days before Oregon's weather warmed up. My order was delayed and didn't ship until the end of April. Had I known the dress was going to take so long to arrive, I might have decided on a different style that could be comfortably worn during the summer.
Will I be doing the 100-day challenge? Not now. Certainly not this summer. I think I could have styled the iron grey Rowena in enough ways to make it look unique for work. I don't feel the same way about the washed navy. The color just isn't as versatile, at least not for my collection of sweaters, scarves, and other accessories. As another reviewer said, I can't imagine hiking in it--and I do hike in skirts.
Positives: The second dress fit well and was well made. The dress is comfortable to wear. I like having pockets.
Hi Kathryn, thanks for your review. We're glad you like the way your second dress fits and that you can see the styling potential, but sorry that our inventory was low enough that you didn't get your top color choices. We're working hard to increase our inventory level for later this year and hope you'll be able to find the perfect style and colors in the future.
So soft and breathable but not see through light weight fabric. Love it!
I was worried the fabric would be so thin that it would show under bra arm rolls in the fitted part. It IS thin, but it also has a tight weave that makes the drape look beautiful. The v-neck and 3/4 sleeves are my fav style and this dress does them well. It's a good thing my arms aren't any bigger around, though, because the sleeves might be tight at the bottom if they were. It's perfect for me and my bod and I look forward to wearing it lots. I'm fairly tall but I like the regular length.
First, the good. Surprisingly light weight. Comfortable. Nice navy color. Like the pockets, the v-neck, the 3/4 sleeves. I definitely can see it being dressed up or down. But wear it hiking, as in their ads? Not for me. I had no expectations of doing the challenge, just think the hype that the dress can be worn for all weather and occasions is unrealistic. Agree that it is versatile. The negatives, I wish it were longer. Thanks for making plus sizes, but we can be tall too, you know. I got the 2x regular after seeing the length was the same as the XXL tall. But would appreciate a few more inches. The worst thing for me is that it is a pet hair magnet. Even before I put it on, pet hair was clinging to it. Granted, a lot of clothes attract some hair, but not like this. Any ideas for how to reduce this? It did seem kind of clingy, not tight but like static cling. Maybe I need to try some static guard or something?
Only been wearing my Willow dress for 9 days, but loving the feel and low care! I’ve washed by hand and line dry like all my wool things, so no big deal.
Love the pockets!
I was so happy to slip on my Willow and feel the light weight (perfect for Florida) swirl around me. It fits great, the V-neck isn’t too low but open enough to show off statement necklaces! And yes, nice deep pockets! I haven’t worn it for any length of time yet as I’m doing the 100 day challenge with my Sierra!
I waited a while for this dress, and it’s actually ok looking on, but the fabric is not what I was expecting. I own lots of Merino and this doesn’t feel like any Merino I’ve ever owned. It’s mixed with nylon, which is listed in the fabric contents. I made the mistake of not looking at that before I bought it. Since wool is you know...the name of the company...and is also heavily pushed on all the advertisements, I just assumed it was 100%, especially for the price. I just feel kind of duped. If you’re expecting a 100% fair trade socially conscious dress, I just don’t know if this is it. I didn’t see anywhere on the site or in any ads where the nylon is sourced and why it’s necessary in what could have been a good product. Just a bummer. Nylon! Plastic! Micro plastics!! Wool& even mentions on their blog how bad nylon is for the environment, yet it’s a big portion of this dress! This is just nuts to me. Be more transparent please! https://journal.wooland.com/post/2020/3/9/supply-chain-amp-sustainability
Thanks for your review, and we appreciate your concern about using synthetics in our dresses. We use a small percentage of nylon and other synthetics in our dresses because we have found that they make our garments more durable. We did used to offer a 100% merino dress called the Clara Shirt Dress, but retired that garment recently.
By adding materials like nylon to our dresses, our customers are able to go longer between washes (even 100 days!), which therefore saves the amount of water used to do laundry. We promote this sustainable decision because we know how the water used to do laundry negatively impacts the environment.
We have had over six years of practice making 100% merino garments through our menswear brand, Wool&Prince, and have found that while we love a 100% merino knit piece, it is more prone to wear and tear issues down the road.
We apologize that you feel our sustainability page is misleading—we are in no way trying to conceal the fact that we use nylon and other synthetics in our garments, and we're sorry if you found there to be a lack of transparency on our side. Many of our content pages talk about the many benefits of using nylon.
However, we are working toward using more alternatives to synthetics in our garments. We already make a tunic blending merino with linen, as well as a merino and tencel (dissolved wood pulp) dress.
Please let us know if you have any questions or further concerns.
This is my 2nd Wool& purchase. I was hoping for this material to be as pet hair resistant as the striped material was. (What is your secret w that? I want a couch made of it!) I suppose that was too much to ask. The cut is comfortable and very flattering, especially given my menopausal/COVID gain. This black can be somewhat see-though, however. It is comfortable in 65 degrees for this northerner even w a slip or cami/ leggings on, however. I probably could have been ok with a large, but the xl is ok too. I will probably purchase a tank or short sleeved dress next.
I’ve worn my Rowena Swing Dress almost every day since it arrived in September. I started out participating in the 100 day challenge, but couldn’t remember to take a photo every day. Even so, I loved the idea and have worn this dress almost every single day for six months. I’ve only washed it three times. I love it. One update is that after six months of near daily wear, the fabric at the elbows has become thin and you can see skin through it. I mostly wear the sleeves pushed up to 3/4, so it’s usually not noticeable, but wanted to mention. Otherwise, it washes and dries perfectly, never smells, looks great for any occasion. I’ve ordered another, this time the V-neck, 3/4 sleeve style, and will keep a couple of these dresses in my (minimal) closet for a long time to come.
