I absolutely love the cobalt color! Sofia is a comfortable dress that can be dressed up or worn very casually. I think it looks a bit better with a thin belt over the elastic waist, but overall, it’s a dress I’ll be wearing a lot.

It’s all about the waist

I was attracted to this dress because of the fitted waistline, because it is slightly thicker than the signature jersey, and because it Is a midi. Even at just 5’2”, I find most of the Wool& swing dresses to be too short, generally hitting above my knees.

I am pear-shaped, generally wearing small on top and large on the bottom. Worried about the waistline being too tight, I first tried size large. But the bodice and arm holes were too big and it didn’t work. So I compromised and bought a medium. My waist is 33 inches, and the waist was a bit tight, so I had it professionally altered by replacing the elastic, expanding it by 1-1/2 inches.

For two years, I have enjoyed wearing this dress. The cobalt color is lovely, and I like the drape and the length. But it is not my most comfortable wool& dress. Either the bodice is not long enough, or my waistline is much higher than I realized. And frankly, the waist is still a little tight. Wearing this dress has made me realize that my waist line also is probably a large or almost nonexistent!

My advice for would-be buyers of Sofia: The waist is the most important measurement and a key element in your wearing experience. Women whose bust and waist sizes are proportional and pretty much match will be happiest. Also, I I don’t think the bodice is long enough, so if you are long waisted, you might be uncomfortable with the waist placement.

Pros: Nice weight of fabric, nice midi length, pretty silhouette, good color.
Cons: Bodice perhaps too short, not suitable for those with fairly thick waists.

A final note: the seamstress who replaced the elastic was very impressed with the quality of the dress and workmanship. By the way, the elastic is sewn in, so replacing it is a bit more complicated than just opening a casing, taking out the old and putting the new in.

My Absolute Favorite

I have quite a few Wool& dresses and this one is, by far, my favorite. I don't normally wear sleeveless anything, so I was hesitant to order. I throw this on all the time, it is what I would like to wear every single day. I can top it with a cardigan or a shirt, or one of my many hand knit shawls. It just looks great no matter what. Now, I have to keep myself from ordering every color! I didn't think I wanted another black dress, but this one is just so pretty, flattering, and endlessly versitile. I sized up and I am glad I did.

Second time's a charm!

I originally purchased a Sofia last year but the armholes gaped on me and were so low that my bra was exposed. When I heard there were updates to the design I decided to try it again, and WOW what a perfect dress this is for me now! The wider waist band is so comfortable, the armholes fit perfectly, the midi length is super flattering (as is the flowy sweep), and I just love, love, love the side slits. The spruce color in person is a bit lighter than what it looks like online, but it is still gorgeous. I hope to see more colors come out as I definitely want another one. Size-wise I fall between a small and a medium and I ended up settling on the medium so that I can add additional layers underneath during the winter. This will absolutely be a four-season dress for me! (P.S. Sofia gets a lot of spontaneous compliments.)
