This is a great LBD for cooler months, especially with the sleeve length, and will be perfect for my trip to Italy in the shoulder season, but I did make some very simple alterations to make it work better for my particular body type. I’m an athletic, pear-shaped 41 year old gal with wide shoulders, small bust, thicker in the hips/thighs, and muscular arms and legs. My most “feminine” feature is my waist, so boxy clothes aren’t very flattering on me. I was hoping this sheath dress might go in at the waist a little, but this dress is very straight. Luckily the side seams are straight and simple so I was able to take them in a little. Also, with my thicker legs, the knee-length hem of this dress is not great for me. I took it up a couple of inches, which was also an easy fix. With these changes, it is perfect for me, and it goes with EVERYTHING. The fabric is stretchy and soft, I can dress it up, wear it to work (I’m a librarian), or wear it on a casual weekend trip to the grocery store. So many options, with different jackets, leggings, shoes, and accessories…just wanted to warn my fellow pear-shaped ladies that it may not work for you, if you’re not willing to alter it.
Love the pockets on this dress! This is my first dress in the thicker fabric and it’s fantastic. The fit is flattering.
I studied the styles for a bit before choosing the Evelyn Shift dress. I like the way the fit is not tight..It skims the hips ( My curvier area). The fabric is soft and comfortable..It's not heavy but substantial so it doesn't emphasize imperfections. Even the pockets lay flat. You can barely tell they're there. The v-neck is not too low. I love all the photos on social media showing the various ways to wear your dresses. I love the color of this dress (marine) and am already finding so many items in my wardrobe to wear with it. This was my first wool& purchase but I know I'll buy more.
This is my first wool& dress, and I've been really pleased with it. I chose a medium, and it fits perfectly--for my somewhat athletic menopausal body, I couldn't imagine any other size, and it doesn't make me feel self-conscious about my menopot :-) . When I washed it the second time, I noticed that it felt a little more snug on than before I washed it, but it relaxed within a few hours of wearing it. I really love the weight of it--it has been comfortable on cold days. I do see it as a three-season dress--I can't imagine wearing it outside (in black!) during a Georgia summer, but in an all-day air conditioned setting, I can imagine it would be great. I'm really impressed with the versatility of the dress, too--I've worn it with nice blouses over it and under it; with t-shirts; with scarves and jean jackets; and with heels. And the pockets are awesome--I love the placement and size of the pockets!
I purchased a marionberry Evelyn after Margo didn't quite work for me. It is lovely and elegant, and comfy/cozy as all get out. So far only worn it a couple times, but planning to start a 30 day challenge in February. I took an hour and tried it with a bunch of different layers and accessories, and I have well more than 30 options! The marionberry is a gorgeous color, the pockets are great, the fit is slim but not tight (good on my rectangular shape), and it looks very classy, especially with a blazer over. The one thing I don't love is how the dress looks with a belt. The back looks a little weird for some reason. But it looks okay, especially with a jacket or something over, so whatever. :) I'm looking forward to my 30 day challenge in this dress!
