The short answer is they fit well, they don’t cling to my dress (Sierra), and they’re super comfortable! Size and measurements at the end. If you have any specific questions about the shorts, let me know in the comments! I’ll do my best to answer.
To answer some frequently asked questions:
Material: soft, lightweight, and opaque! I can wear them on their own or under the dress.
Cling: I haven’t had any issues with cling! My dress definitely clings to my synthetic ones, so this is awesome.
Fit: True to size. They fit my legs and hips perfectly, and they stay up all day! I’m VERY pear shaped, so the waistband is a bit loose. This is a common issue for me though - I buy things to fit my hips and just get the waistband taken in a bit if necessary. I may alter these eventually, but for now the waistband is super comfy as-is. Since the hips fit so well, the waistband being a bit loose doesn’t affect the functionality of the shorts or cause them to slide down.
Pocket: since this pocket is on the inside of the waistband, it’s not the most practical for under the dress. I would love to see an exterior pocket on future iterations. The pocket is a great size though, it fits my iPhone with plenty of extra room for keys or cards!
I took measurements while wearing the shorts! I ordered an XL.
Waistband: 38.5 in
Hips: 48 in
Thigh: 24.5 in
Inseam: 6 in
For further reference, I’m 5’8”, 200 lbs., wearing a Medium Sierra. I usually wear a size 12 pant!
Thanks so much for this great review! We're happy they work so well for you.
I have a pair of merino shorts from another company that I absolutely love, and I requested these for Christmas because they’re longer and look even better. I was very disappointed when I put them on! Too tight at the bottom of the leg openings and just not stretchy enough throughout. They’re not comfortable—like, I’m constantly feeling scratched or pinched or unable to bend in some way. The size was not the problem—the waist was actually a little large on me. They’re just not comfy.
Thank you for the review and the feedback, we will be sure to take this into account with future designs. If you'd like, we hope that you'll get in contact with the customer service team at firstname.lastname@example.org about an exchange or a refund.
Finally wool shorts that do not creep up the leg. Perfect length. Wish there was an elastic drawstring inside to cinch the waist tighter, but overall a versatile piece that can be worn for many types of activity.
I purchased intending to wear these bike shorts under dresses. And they are perfect for that. However, they could also be worn for sleeping in and would take up less space in your bag when traveling. I love dual purpose items because traveling light is the only way to travel. It provides so much freedom traveling with one carry-on bag so items that can do dual purpose and wash easily and dry quickly are imperative. These shorts are perfect for everyday and for travel! I highly recommend.
Granted it is "winter" here but these are airy and comfortable. I would not wear then for biking or by themselves but under a skirt or dress, they are perfect.
I have been wearing cotton panties like this for a few years, does wonders for thigh chafing. These are so much better. The waist is not very stretchy. I used my hip measurement for sizing and they fit beautifully (I have a thick waist). Warm, no itch, don’t roll up in the thighs or down at the waist. Pricy, but so very worth it. I plan on buying more. How about more colors? I wear these as underpants not shorts.
I'm very satisfied with my bike shorts!
They do "relax" from the warmth of your own body and movement, but all wool fabric does to some extent. That being said, they don't relax alot. I've had no issues with them riding up after relaxing and they un- relax while you're not wearing them at night, so it's just nice in the morning again.
I feel like where my butt cheeks meets my thighs sweat way less. Sorry for the TMI. And if they don't, I'm still more comfortable then I am with the cotton or nylon bike shorts I've tried.
I'm like 90-95% happy with these. My one quibble is i wish they were about half an inch longer. Same goes with the other sizes. Or maybe just 8" long inseam for all sizes. I'm trying to lose weight and when I manage to do down the next size I'll be losing half an inch in length. And that'll border on too-short-land for me.
Also, I'm a pear shape and they run pretty true to size.
UPDATE: I'm test driving the bike shorts today, and I have to say, they are VERY comfortable. They don't fall down. They don't ride up. And there's no static cling when worn under my Rowena. They do NOT itch. Very silky feeling. They did not get baggy. I think I'll buy another pair.
I never wear leggings or bike shorts, and I don't like my clothing tight, so this was a new experience for me. I seem to be between sizes (38-33-40) so while the Rowena and Sierra dresses fit me perfectly in a Medium, they don't hug my waist. My waist seems to be in the Large size range. The Medium bike shorts were too tight. They fit, I just don't like my clothing tight. The Large just skimmed my body and is perhaps a hair baggy, but felt more comfortable, so I kept the Large. They slide nicely under the Wool& dresses, which is how I'll probably wear them.
The pocket is weird, but I know a lot of people asked for a pocket. It fit my phone, but of course that showed through my clothing horribly. I can see using the pocket like a money belt when I travel, but I can't see using it as an every day pocket, because I'd have to lift my skirt to access it. There's no way I wearing this shorts as outer wear.
I would totally wear these. I would need them to be a little longer to wear under dresses and skirts. I currently wear Brooks Greenlight shorts under all my dresses. Most boy shorts have such short legs that they don't provide any chaffing protection or warmth. BTW I have not yet found any Merino Wool shorts that are long enough for me to do this, so you might have a niche in the market.
