So, I love this dress. Bonus points, my mom's cat's claw got snagged a few times and the fabric bounced back really really well. I mean, after a little gentle tugging you can't even feel any more!
Judging by the silhouette, I got the XS, and it was just right.. Sometimes flare skirts can look frumpy on me if they have too much material. Not the case here! The top is slightly snug in the sleeves, but not too roomy in the chest (seems like many dresses are made for women who can fill them out better than I can). It's a great dress, wearable casually or for work.
The Fiona dress is casual, comfortable, but dressy enough to be a good outfit for a lot of different scenarios. My body is most flattered by Fit and flare styles, due to an hourglass shape, and while this isn’t as flattering in the bust (I have broad shoulders, big arms, and it drapes a little oddly in the torso because of this) the comfort outweighs this aspect. It’s still cute enough and cozy enough to want to keep around for casual dates, lounging at home, going to the grocery store, etc. I like it. :)
I’ll share my measurements, for those of you trying to decide on a size (I bought a large):
The dress comes to about mid-knee on me, and I’m 5’7”. The waist hits at my natural waist, but it is pretty roomy... if I can lose a few more pounds, I might try to take in the elastic and cinch it in a bit more. We shall see!
I wish Fiona was available in a longer waisted version. It is not as flattering on me as it would be if the waist were longer.
I do like the fabric. I have not worn every day in a row, yet, but it is tolerable in the very subtropical balmy climate where I live (the Deep South). Nice, modest length. The fit is good.
For a long time I have been intrigued by the idea of a ‘uniform’, a garment that can be worn consistently every day for almost every activity. I have found it!
I am impressed by the fabric and the workmanship. I feel like this is the type of garment that someone in the past may have worn, before the days of throw-away clothing. Even though I did not sign up for the 100 day challenge I have worn my dress every day for the past two weeks. I plan to put it on again tomorrow.
Granted, being home right now and having meetings over Zoom makes wearing the same thing every day realistic. However I think that having fewer things in my wardrobe is a trend that is here to stay.
My slate blue dress pairs well with black, navy, red, ice blue, and just about every other color I can think of.
You will not be disappointed if you try this dress.
