I am wearing M shorts under a S dress. Per the size chart, I needed a M in the waist and a L in the hips. These fit just perfect. They were snug at the opening around my thighs on the frost day, then relaxed. The waistband and legs do not roll up. Prevents chub rub and inadvertent flashing! They are much longer than they appear on the super tall model. They don't show under my regular Rowena, though.
These are super comfy, but I would recommend sizing down-I wear a size 12 pants and originally got a large, but exchanged for a medium in the end. The only complaint I have about them is that the waist is VERY high! I can appreciate a high waist for an under piece, but these are a little too high in my opinion. Very comfy, though, and I love them under my dresses.
I purchased to wear under my wool& dresses and I am not disappointed. I like the high rise and the waist doesn't fall down. The fabric is soft and lightweight, even in central Texas summer heat. They prevent thigh rub! I purchased my usual size, which is a XL and they fit pretty well, but in the future I think I'll size down to a L because the waist is a bit loose.
The shorts are good quality & comfortable. Summers are really, really hot & windy where I live, necessitating shorts under flowy dresses The Frankie shorts are ok under longer dresses and will be great when it cools down, but they are too long (on me @ 5’4”) to wear (unseen) under shorter (eg Rowena) length dresses that hit much above the knee. I also find that while there isn’t static cling, the material of the shorts does grab the shirt which, given the length is a bit awkward. Easily fixed w a short slip, but another layer in the heat is kinda like, ugh.
I’d love to see a slightly shorter version- Perhaps a 5” inseam that could offer windy-day modesty without as much peek or cling.
I like the material and I sweated like crazy in them and they smelled just fine the next day! But, they run big and for me the pocket in the waistband (which is around the front) is a pain because I keep catching my fingers on the openings as I pull them up. Sadly I didn't pay attention that they aren't completely opaque. I wear shorter skirts...cause I'm tall and have long legs and wish they were a little less see through. I certainly wouldn't wear them without a tunic or dress to cover them.
I have to wear shorts under dresses for comfort and because I am pretty active - don’t want to flash anyone! So over the years I have tried lots of options - slip shorts, cotton shorts, nylon shapewear, snag tights shorts, and more. Usually they served my purpose but I didn’t care for them - the fit, fabric, or function always left something to be desired.
These shorts? Perfection. They stay in place. They are breathable. They don’t stink after a single wear. They are high waisted enough with a thick waistband so they don’t cause weird lumps and lines under my dresses.
I loved them so much I got a second pair and I probably wear them 6 out of 7 days a week.
Personally I wouldn’t wear them by themselves because that’s not my style. They are a little thin which is perfect for under dresses - breathable but still totally decent if you inadvertently flash someone. If they were thicker I think they would be too hot for summer wear.
I ordered my normal size and they are perfect.
I bought the small and medium Frankie and one was way too tight and the other was too baggie. I guess I’m a smedium, ha. Also the super high waisted fit didn’t work for my body. They felt very soft and silky though, so with a different fit they would be really nice to wear under my Wool& dresses. They seemed to be a bit too thin and see through for my to wear on their own though.
When I first tried my shorts on they seemed a bit too snug, but they relaxed just enough to be super comfortable. I walk to work and wear them under my skirts and dresses. I haven't had any problems with them riding up. I've tried a lot of shorts over the years and these are my absolute favorite pair.
I received my frankie bike shorts just in time for the heat wave. The first day I wore them it was 91 degrees. They were cool, soft, and I was very comfortable. No sweating or sticking or rolling.
These have been wonderful in our recent scorching weather.
