Unfortunately, this was not for me. the sleeves were very tight on my upper arms (even though I ordered my usual size) and the fabric wasn't as cozy as I had hoped for a winter dress. The dress was a little too shapeless for me. might be a great summer dress for someone proportioned differently from me! also a lovely color (I went for the plum).
I read all the comments and reviews and got sucked in. I wear different base layer wool products, and was impressed by another review that mentioned this quality was superior. What the heck, why not try it? I was a little leery as I had to order the light grey since black was sold out. My squishy 54 year old body was worried about how much would show, but it drapes fairly well. I had no intention of wearing it for 100 days, I just wanted to try something different and I liked seeing all the other customers' pictures of how they wear the dress. The day it came I put it right on, and immediately started emptying my closet finding things to wear with it! I have lots of vests and scarves and a few jackets. I've worn it now for the last week-- it's fun to try and make a new outfit everyday! I just ordered a bunch of colorful tights and shoes. I can totally see myself ordering the tank version for summer. It's soft, comfortable and stylish.
But I don’t. The fabric is fantastic, soft to the touch, drapes well, and there are pockets. But the cut makes me feel “blocky” and square. I’m not long and lean, but this dress skips over my waist and leaves me with no shape at all. I may try a different style, as I love everything else.
The quality of fabric on this garment seems great. Unfortunately, the fit just doesn't work for me. I'm a curvy athletic build (5'5", 135lbs, 32C bra size) and initially ordered a small. The sleeves were an excellent fit (length, circumference), and I like the overall dress length. Also, with this style, the fit of waist and hip are very flexible and would work for me. However, the shoulders were too narrow, and this or some other reason also made it very unflattering in the bosom (pulling across the front, showing bra lines from even my high quality undergarments). I have decided not to re-order in a larger size because extra fabric anywhere else would be highly unnecessary, and unflattering. For me it's a "swing" and a miss (haha?). However, I could imagine trying a different style, maybe one of the sleeveless options for warmer weather, that would be more flexible for those of us with broader shoulders.
I love my dress. I'm on day 15 and already feel such freedom. It is perfect.
I've been wearing this dress for a week now and am really impressed!
Fabric: I've never before found a wool clothing item, no matter how soft, that I can wear next to my skin without my chest and back turning bright red. (I definitely don't have an allergy, just irritation from the fiber.) I can wear this dress all day without any redness! Hooray!
Fit: I found that the guidelines on the sizing chart worked well for me. The dress is more snug through the shoulders than I would have guessed, but fits well. If you have broad shoulders, don't size down.
Length: I'm short, and this dress comes down to my knees.
Warmth: I'm needing extra layers with this dress in our upstate NY winter weather. This is promising - I think the dress will be comfortable even in warm weather.
Style: I'm no fashionista. This dress works easily with tights, leggings, and skiny jeans. I can throw on a scarf, shawl, cardigan, pullover, or poncho as needed and all look pretty good.
I love the dress! It’s light and easy to wear!
I have worn this dress for a week straight (day 7 of the 100 day challenge) and it shows zero signs of wear. Even after washing twice! This dress is easily the best item of clothing I own. Even after this 100 day challenge is over, this dress will be my go-to item again and again. Why did I wait so long to purchase this???
The only down side to this dress is the static cling. Where we live is really dry this time of the year so the dress sticks to the my leggings. This is definitely a personal problem and nothing wrong with the dress!
I don’t want to wait until March. If like to change for a sleeveless dress ASAP.
I liked my standard Black S Rowena swing dress enough to get on the wait list for an S in Storm Blue that came out in the fall. It took several months to arrive, as expected. The issue is with the lack of consistent sizing. I didn’t think much of it at first, but this grey dress is a good 4 inches (!) shorter in length than my black one. I care for them the same. But the grey one hits a few inches above my knees, at 5’3”, and I hate it. For the price point, I expect consistency. Neither of these dresses were ordered as the long version because I’m petite. Sadly, I’m donating my second Rowena and not risking it again.
