Wore this dress for my 100 days challenge. Did fantastic through the cooler months, and was a bit thick for our 116° record breaker. This is a very thick dress. Over all it held up well only needing mending in the hem once. Easy to style up or down depending on accessories. It is harder to belt because of the thickness of fabric.
I have a few dresses from wool&, but I think if there was one I would be most likely to complete the 100 day challenge in it would be the Sierra tank dress. I really love it. The midweight terry is great. Not too hot (wore out in 100 degrees and dry in the west, 90 degrees and humid in the midwest), but a good sturdy weight that doesn't cling and provides good coverage/not too sheer. I like the back seam/detail and the pockets are nice too. Sizing runs a little large so probably size down if you want a more slim fit.
I love this dress. I got the redwood color. It’s so comfortable. Love the pockets. And I am not hot. Ordered a 1X, fits great.
I, like so many others I’ve read about, worried about sizing, ordered my usual size large, and tried it on with a little anxiety. It fits like a dream and feels great! I’m so comfortable, I started the challenge the day I received the dress. Loving it. No regrets.
I now have two Sierras (Redwood and Black), and while I did my 100 day challenge in a Rowena, I'm really enjoying these dresses as well.
I thought the thicker fabric would be hotter, but I"m not really finding that to be true. The fabric seems to shield from the sun as much as anything, and it does not trap heat. Don't get me wrong, in a humid 90+ degree day, I AM STILL HOT AND SWEATY, but definitely no more, and maybe even less than in what I would have otherwise been wearing. I enjoy the increased "structure" of the dress...it has a bit more heft than the Rowena, which means undergarments and bra lines such don't show through as easily. I am not doing another challenge, but I just decided to keep wearing them until I wanted to wear something else this summer. I'm going on 3+ weeks now, and have worn them all the time except one day, so far. I do like having two to switch back and forth between--it feels like the right amount of variety while still making getting dressed simpler in the mornings. I do wear an anti-chafing short underneath for comfort as well as coverage, should things and/or dresses go awry during my day.
I ordered my Sierra in one size down and two sizes down. The one size down definitely worked better for me. Two was too tight, so for me, the Sierra is a bit more true to size than my experience with the Rowena swing dress. I was comfortable as is in the dress, but I did take the plunge after a week or so and hemmed my dresses a few inches so that it hits just about mid knee instead of just below, since I am short, short-waisted and not thin. I think it is more flattering that way. To make it perfect for me, I really needed it to be taken up in the shoulders to get the pockets where they should be and to bring up the underarm hole a bit, but I am happy enough with it as is, and was able to do the alteration myself vs taking it to a tailor. Bigger-busted women may not have that issue.
I actually chose the Sierra over the Camellia or Maggie for a warm weather dress because the pockets on the Sierra are not quite as deep and secure being on the outside, but it makes the dress lay much better on my body than those with the inseam pockets, which hit me a bit lower than they should since I'm short and short-waisted. The inseam pockets tend to make my pear shape look that much more, ahem, pear-y.
No regrets about investing in my 2 Sierras. I look forward to seeing how well they layer once the weather gets colder.
I love this dress so much. I was a little worried that wool in the south in July was a bad idea, but it’s super comfortable.
It's definitely comfortable. It felt good in the shoulder and chest, but the rest was too large around and falls below my knee. I think I would have loved it if I had gone for a medium.
This dress is very well made, and the fabric drapes beautifully, does not itch, and got a bit softer (with no shrinking) when machine laundered and air dried. But for me, it is too warm in summer weather, which is disappointing because I really only want to wear a sleeveless dress when it is warm/hot out. Tip: if you are looking for a sleeveless dress to wear in summer weather, maybe consider the lighter-weight Camillia (which I decided against because of color).
Speaking of color, the washed navy is lovely, but it is very changeable in different light; if I’d known how much brighter blue it can sometimes look compared to how it looks on the website, I’d have ordered a different color. Tip: check out photos by customers on social media, which show the full range that a color can end up looking in different lighting.
Size-wise, I wondered if I would need the long length because I am tall, but it turns out the regular length is perfect for me (for reference, it hits at the top of the knee on my 5’8 height). The overall fit is a bit big on me, and the neckline gapes out noticeably at the back. Should I have gone a size lower? As it was, I ordered a size lower than my measurements indicated I should! Tip: ordering more than one size might help (but I honestly would have had to order 3 sizes to get the right one). I'm hoping I can get it to shrink, but not too much...
The customer service at Wool& has been stellar. I went through many shipping delays, and during that time changed my order a couple of times as I debated style and length, and they were unvaryingly nice, accommodating and thoroughly professional. Huge kudos. You will love working with them.
Bottom line: I gave the Sierra 4 stars overall, but the issues I had with the fit, color, and fabric of the particular dress I ordered make it a 2 or 3 for me personally — so it’s okay, but sadly, it could have been excellent if I had ordered differently. Good luck, and I hope you can learn from my mistakes! :)
I initially bought the Sierra in a medium, and quickly realized it was a little too much fabric for me. I ordered the small and it was/is such a better fit for me.
Really though, this dress is so comfortable, that when I take it off to exercise (I’m in Texas…think dripping sweat) or hand wash it, I miss it! I love this dress and have 2 more on order. I’m an Art teacher at the local high school and when I get back to school my challenge will will still be going on. I’m super excited to wear this dress and my others after the challenge as my year long uniforms! The comfortable and breathable fabric are amazing on your skin and even in this Texas summer heat, I wore it to a 6 hour outdoor party, sweated in it and the next morning….no smell at all! I have a red Willow!
